Before you choose

Will it work with my home?

Both products work with the Home Assistant you already run at home. Choose Relay for selected controls with no router changes, or Proxy for your full Home Assistant interface.

Behind CGNAT or prefer to keep incoming ports closed? Choose Relay. Want all your dashboards and settings? Review the Full Proxy requirements below.

Relay — a simple dashboard

For the lights, readings and scripts you choose, on a simple dashboard. It works behind CGNAT too.

What your home needs

  • Home Assistant 2024.10 or later with a working internet connection that allows HTTPS.
  • Access to its settings and configuration file for initial setup.
  • The entity IDs of the lights, readings and scripts you want to include.
  • You will copy two things from your account: the configuration block and the automation.

Add the supplied YAML configuration, check it and reload RESTful commands in Home Assistant. Then create or edit the Relay automation and save the generated code. If RESTful commands are not available to reload, restart Home Assistant once for the initial setup. Home Assistant sends your selected updates to us and collects any control requests over a secure connection it starts from home. You don’t need to open a port, change your router or install a certificate.

Start free with up to 5 entities and updates every 60 seconds. Upgrade the same Relay for more entities, faster updates and a personal subdomain. Relay does not include the full Home Assistant interface, cameras or Home Assistant’s full history, and cannot be used as the Companion app’s server address.

What your home needs

  • A public IPv4 address from your internet provider, with incoming connections allowed. Proxy does not work behind CGNAT.
  • Access to your router to create a port-forwarding rule that lets only our server connect to Home Assistant.
  • Access to Home Assistant settings so you can add our server as a trusted proxy. Your setup shows the exact values.
  • A paid Proxy plan, separate from Relay.

Your browser connects securely to our service. By default, the connection from our service to your Home Assistant is not encrypted. Someone who intercepts that traffic could read it, including sign-in details.

HTTPS can protect the home connection if your Home Assistant address has a valid, trusted certificate. Allowing only our server to connect limits access; it does not encrypt traffic. Our service can read and process the traffic even when both connections use HTTPS.

Test your connection free before you buy Full Proxy. You only need a registered account. If your provider shares one public address between customers (CGNAT), Proxy cannot connect to your home. If you need full access without opening a port, compare other remote-access options.

Check my home connection

Which Home Assistant version do I need?

  • Relay with YAML: 2024.10 or later, for the automation syntax we generate.
  • Optional Relay connector: 2026.9 or later. This is an alternative to the YAML setup.
  • Full Proxy: the HTTP server settings screen is available from 2026.8. Older versions use the YAML instructions in your account.

These version numbers apply to different setup methods. Follow the instructions for the one you choose.

If your home’s internet address changes

Relay: no extra setup is needed. Home Assistant starts the connection, so it can keep working after your internet address changes.

Proxy: we need your current home address to connect. If you already use a hostname such as home.example.com that stays updated through a dynamic DNS service (DDNS), enter it during setup. We check it about every five minutes.

If you don’t use DDNS and your provider changes your public IPv4 address, add the IP-update automation from Proxy settings. You can skip it if your address is fixed. We test a new address before using it; a failed check leaves the previous address in place.

These options keep the address updated. They cannot make Proxy work behind CGNAT or with the required port closed.

Use your own setup details

Your signed-in setup shows the exact server addresses, Home Assistant settings and generated code for your connection. Copy the values shown in your own account; they’re specific to your connection.

After setup: check it away from home
  1. For Proxy, open your personal address and check that Home Assistant responds. For Relay, confirm that an update has arrived and check its time.
  2. Turn off home Wi-Fi on your phone and open the dashboard over mobile data.
  3. Try a reading and a harmless action you can observe. A slow connection can delay updates and actions, even after a successful test.
